The NHS App dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of how your patients are interacting with the NHS App. The report is split into five key areas, accessible via the navigation buttons at the top left: Uptake, Usage, Messaging, Jump Offs, and Data Table.
What you can Measure
Uptake
App Adoption & Targets: The "Registered Patients vs Target" gauge shows the percentage of your patients (aged 13+) registered on the app against your practice goal. The "Registrations" chart tracks month-on-month growth, helping you monitor the success of digital enrolment campaigns
Public Health Engagement: The Organ Donation Activity view tracks how many patients are using the app to manage their donation status, providing a unique look at patient engagement with broader national health initiatives
Usage
Self-Service Volume: The "Activity" and "Logins" charts show exactly how patients are bypassing the front desk. High volumes in "Repeat Prescriptions" and "Record Views" indicate a successful digital shift, as every action taken here represents one less phone call or face-to-face enquiry for the surgery
Patient Interaction Trends: By comparing "Logins" against "Record Views," you can see if patients are merely checking the app or actively engaging with their clinical data, helping you gauge the depth of digital literacy within your patient list
Messaging
Communication Efficiency: The "Read Rate %" and "Read Within 1 Hour" tiles measure how effectively your practice is reaching patients. A high read rate suggests the NHS App is a viable, lower-cost alternative to SMS or posted letters for non-urgent notifications
Patient Responsiveness: The "Messages Sent and Read Status" chart categorises engagement by timeframes. This helps the practice identify if patients are viewing messages promptly (within 24 hours) or if certain demographics require a follow-up through traditional channels
Jump Offs
Integrated Service Demand: This tracks "Jump Offs," which occur when a patient moves from the NHS App to a third-party tool like Emis or Accurx. It identifies which integrated services, such as "Test Results" or "Online Consultations," are the most utilised
Provider Popularity: By monitoring "Jump Offs by Provider," the practice can see which digital partners are driving the most traffic, ensuring that your integrated clinical systems are performing as expected and meeting patient needs
Data Table
Granular Performance Auditing: This provides a monthly spreadsheet view of every metric across the dashboard. It allows for precise reporting on specific figures, such as the exact number of "Summary Care Record Views" or "Repeat Prescriptions" requested during a particular month
Trend Comparison: The table format makes it easy to spot month-on-month fluctuations in registration percentages and clinical activity, serving as the primary source for internal audits and data exports
