How do I upgrade my Phonebar?

If you already use Version 3 of Surgery Connect's EMIS integration you will need to disable the Partner API and then reenable it in order to activate the additional functionality for your users.

This needs to be done once by an EMIS Admin user by selecting the correct API.

This would be a good time to do a quick system health check and make sure that all of the users who need the integration activated have been activated from the EMAS Manager and ensure you have the correct Surgery Connect highlighted in the Partner API list.

In this article we go through all of the stages to complete the integration with EMIS.

Step by step guide

Selecting the correct API

Within EMIS open the EMAS Manager

Within EMAS Manager, you will see 'Partner API' down the left hand side.

Select this:

A list of partners appears in the panel above, from this list, scroll down and select 'Surgery Connect'

Then Deactivate Application

Now you need to reselect Surgery Connect. Scroll down and select 'Surgery Connect'

Then Activate Application

A list of API's will populate the main pane on the right:

Check the list carefully for the following two items:

  • FileRecord

  • GetOrganisationV2

Activating Surgery Connect in EMAS Manager

Within EMAS Manager Click the Login Access icon to take you to a window

Make sure that both boxes are ticked against all of the users you want to use the integration

As well as the Login Access area (shown above) you must also go to the Edit Users area in the same Patient API area and tick the users that you want activated with the integration

Activate Surgery Connect on the Partner API

All applications that communicate to EMIS must be made known to the software and authenticated. When you first run the Surgery Connect Phonebar you will be asked to do this via an EMIS Activate New Partner Product window.

Before you start you will need to know your EMIS CDB and the APP PIN.

If you are Supervisor you can find these through the Configurations Console in Surgery Connect (instructions below). If you are not a supervisor you will need to ask a supervisor to give this information to you before proceeding.

Within the Configuration Console click on Integrations on the left hand side and then Associations - View on the right

and then Associations - View on the right

Your EMIS CDB and App Pin will be displayed in the top right hand corner

Make a note of these to continue the activation

Please Note: the App Pin changes every 7 days, so if you do not complete the activation in one go, you may need to check the App Pin again

When you have your App Pin and CDB number you can run the Phonebar. The Activate New Partner Product window will open.

This needs to be populated with the Username and Password of any valid EMIS user

Please be aware this is not the password associated with a smart card, it is the full EMIS password relating to a user

A Setup window will open on your screen

Please read the information and click Get Started

Click Continue on the setup window

Enter the CDB number and select your region

Then click Next

A screen will appear with the name of the user currently logged in to EMIS and a box to enter the App PIN

Once you have entered your App PIN click FIND USERS button

Choose your name from the drop down list

Then click CONNECT NOW

A window will show you that the EMIS user and your Surgery Connect user have been connected

Click NEXT to associate your deskphone or you can skip, it is nice to do this for hot desking purposes

Deskphone Association

Linking the deskphone and the PC in its physical location allows logging the active EMIS user into the deskphone to happen automatically.

In order to associate the PC you are active on with the deskphone next to the PC, click the setup button, this will give you instructions of a telephone number to dial

You must have lifted the receiver or pressed the speaker button on the deskphone and ensure you have a dial tone before you dial the setup number

(Remember to include the * at the start of the number) the PIN to enter into via the deskphone keypad will appear on the setup screen

Click FINISH and you will then see a setup successful window

Click CLOSE to begin using the Phonebar

Setup Complete

The Phonebar will now appear on your main display screen.

The next time you login to Windows the Phonebar will be on screen waiting for you
